about

Hailing from the murky depths of the Brisbane music scene, 'Bricklayers' first formed for an impromptu support slot for WA's 'Peter Bibby' in 2017. Since then, they have gone to work at creating their own brand of junkyard-swamp rock. While writing and recording has been more of a focus, they have played sold-out shows around Brisbane, the DIY festival 'Calypso Beach Vibes' in Northern NSW and helped to curate 'Forest Fuzz' festival North of Brisbane.

'Bricklayers' members - 'Nathen Glen', 'Christian Driscoll', 'Ben Smith', and 'Paco Johnson Cash' all hail from the Psychedelic scene in Brisbane, playing in bands such as 'Swamp Jenson', 'The Flamingo Jones', 'Belligerent Goat', 'Ben Shock & The Waves', 'The Duke' and 'Amaringo'. They made a conscious decision to step away from the sound they are known for and move towards a more angular industrial junkyard vibe.

Songwriter 'Nathan Glen' wrote most of the debut album in a decrepit Queenslander sunroom North of Brisbane during a tumultuous time. His delivery on tracks like 'Window' and 'Waste of Space' are particularly seething - reminiscent of Tom Waits weilding an angle grinder, cutting cold steel in an industrial shed. While the title track 'Tan Black and Brown' shows a more tender side, doubling as an open letter to his dog.
